Treadmills!

Walking or running on a treadmill is an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise! It is also a type of weight bearing exercise to help prevent osteoporosis!

Treadmills tend to be more expensive than other types of home exercise equipment - but many models are still affordable.

While some people find them boring, many - like myself - think they are great! Where I live most of the year it is either too hot or too cold or too rainy to walk outside - so a treadmill makes a perfect alternative. A home treadmill is also useful for those who can't or won't go to a gym to exercise.

Another thing which I consider an advantage of using a treadmill is that since it doesn't take much concentration to walk on one you can do it while doing other things. Like watching the news, an interesting documentary or your favorite soap opera.

Types of Treadmills

- used and refurbished - One of the first decisions you will have to make if you are interested in buying a treadmill is if you want to buy a used one or a new one. If you decide to get a used one be sure to take your time and make you are buying one that works properly.

- Manual or powered - manual ones are not powered by electricity - you have to make it go yourself! Most are powered, but of course this makes them more expensive.

- folding or not- some treadmills can be folded up to save space - others can't. Even folded up they tend to take up a lot of space though.

Choosing and Buying a Treadmill

There are many things to consider when buying a treadmill. In my article '' Ten Things to Consider When Choosing a Treadmill to Buy'' I go over the main things you want to take into consideration. These include feature of the treadmill like the motor, belt, speed and incline as well as where in your house you will put it and who will be using it.

Popular Brands and Models of Treadmills

There are many, many companies that make treadmills! Some are much better than others! Some the better ones are Sole, Smooth, Pacemaster, Proform, Precor and Woodway. Proform treadmills tend to be less expensive usually between $500 and $1000. Sole only sells direct to customers through their web site. Woodway makes extremely expensive ones that cost nearly $8000!
